American Divide

UNREASONABLE
Church, State and the
American Divide

WELCOME TO UNREASONABLE
preserving the rights of all Americans

Unreasonable is more than a podcast. It’s the start of a movement to reverse the inexorable rise of religious fanaticism taking over our government and our lives, on issues from public education, to women’s reproductive health, to the mainstreaming of
loud-and-proud racism.

It’s time for all of us who believe in the Separation of Church and State to unite — as the majority of Americans we are — in the name of democracy, common sense and kindness.

Is that really so unreasonable?

UNREASONABLE IS THE OFFICIAL PODCAST PARTNER OF THE 2024 SUMMIT FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, HOSTED BY AMERICANS UNITED FOR SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.

Join us this April 13-16 in Washington, D.C. at the Summit for Religious Freedom, where hundreds of new and veteran activists who care about the separation of church and state will convene to learn, share, and leave inspired to fight back against Christian Nationalism’s holy war on our secular democracy leading into the 2024 election.

Keynote speakers include Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), an outspoken leader among secular politicians, Dr. Anthea Butler, the Geraldine R. Segal Professor in American Social Thought, Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and Erin Reed, transgender journalist and creator of the substack Erin In The Morning, reporting on LGBTQ+ legislation, news, and life every day.

We say it on the pod all the time: it’s not enough to read, to watch, or even vote. We must take action. When Benjamin Franklin was asked, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” he responded “A republic, if you can keep it.”

The responsibility to keep it is on all of us.

S2E3: “SECULAR GROUND GAME: PART 1 (FLORIDA AND TEXAS) WITH devon graham and wil jeudy

With this episode, we begin our four-part series focusing on those individuals and groups in swing states who are leading the fight to restore the wall of separation between church and state. Some are facing tsunamis of resistance. Others are making real headway. Some are making incremental progress. But all are in it for the long game. And the brighter the light we shine on their efforts the easier to find and join them.

You can contribute to their work or get your hands dirty and work alongside them. Perhaps they’ll inspire you to organize in your own community, .

But first you have to know who they are.

In upcoming episodes we'll focus on Michigan and Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada, and Georgia and North Carolina.

But let's begin at Grounds Zero with Drs. Devon Graham (Florida) and Wil Jeudy (Texas).

“There's no doubt that the Christian right has gone to bed with the more conservative elements of the Republican Party. And there's been a melding in their goals when it comes to the separation of church and state. I've always believed in the separation of church and state.”
